Read Meta performance and delivery correctly
Distinguish account performance, saved targeting, actual delivery and creative evidence in Meta reports.
Try this in your assistant
In workspace [name], review Meta account [name or ID]. Compare campaign performance and actual delivery for the requested period. Keep saved targeting separate from delivered audience segments. Report missing or unavailable metrics without guessing. Do not change ads.
Choose the right level of analysis
The account overview returns last-30-day totals. Use campaign details to inspect the hierarchy and ad-set details to understand saved targeting and optimization. Keep account, campaign, ad set and ad metrics labeled by their level.
Do not assume every tool accepts the same reporting window or dimensions. Check the tool’s current schema before requesting a breakdown; the overview is specifically a last-30-day report.
Separate targeting from delivery
Saved targeting describes configured eligibility. Delivery breakdowns describe aggregate results for the people or placements that actually received ads. They answer different questions and should appear as separate sections in a report.
Privacy restrictions, unsupported combinations and small samples can limit breakdowns. Missing values should be labeled unavailable rather than filled with estimates.
Investigate creative and performance changes
Compare periods, conversion definitions and spend before attributing a change to creative fatigue or audience quality. A lower click-through rate alone is not sufficient evidence to replace an ad.
If permissions block a report, inspect the live Meta grant and account access. Keep exact platform error messages for troubleshooting. Reading an account does not authorize changing targeting, creative or delivery status.
Tool reference
Selected tools used in this guide. Names, descriptions and declared input fields are extracted from the MCP implementation. The connected assistant exposes the complete live schema, including field types, limits and account-routing options.
Get Meta Ads overviewget_meta_ads_overview
Returns account-level last-30-day Meta totals, including spend, impressions, reach, clicks, CTR, CPC, results, conversion value, and ROAS.

Use the current assistant schema for required fields, defaults and nested structures. This reference is not an executable request.
Get deep Meta campaign detailsget_meta_campaign_details
Returns one campaign's full readable configuration, performance, ad sets with saved targeting and optimization settings, and ads with nested creative configuration. Use this for a complete campaign audit, then call the delivery-breakdown tool for actual audience delivery.

Use the current assistant schema for required fields, defaults and nested structures. This reference is not an executable request.
Get deep Meta ad-set detailsget_meta_ad_set_details
Returns one ad set's full readable configuration and saved audience targeting, its aggregate performance, and its ads with nested creatives and performance. Configured targeting is not the same as actual delivery.
Declared input fields

Use the current assistant schema for required fields, defaults and nested structures. This reference is not an executable request.
Get actual Meta delivery breakdownget_meta_delivery_breakdown
Returns aggregate actual delivery and performance by age/gender, country, region, placement, and device for one campaign, ad set, or ad. Use this to answer who actually received delivery; do not infer actual delivery from saved targeting alone.

Use the current assistant schema for required fields, defaults and nested structures. This reference is not an executable request.
Put it into practice
Meta targeting versus delivery review
Compare saved ad-set targeting with aggregate delivery to investigate where spend actually went.
